Croatian Maritime Museum of Split showcases the eclectic collection of maritime-related artifacts ranging from WW2 era torpedoes and anti-tank guns to ship models and torpedoes. It is located within the confines of Fortress Gripe, a seventeenth century Venetian fortress that played a key role in the defense of the city against the Ottoman threat. The museum and the fort are off the beaten touristic path, so it is of particular interest to those travelers who want to avoid the crowds.
