Moderate Earthquake Shakes Split and Central Dalmatia

On the evening of last night, Wednesday October 6 2021, a strong earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale shooke the city of Split and the region of Central Dalmatia. The epicenter of the quake had been identified at the border of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, near the artificial lake Buško Jezero.

No significant damage has been recorded, though the earthquake has caused quite a stir among the local populace and their guests.

The fear of earthquakes has been on the rise in whole of Croatia following a large 5.5. earthquake on the Richter scale that shook up the capital of Zagreb on Sunday March 22, 2020, causing significant material damage to the city’s historical center amid the uncertainty caused by the initial outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
