The fourteenth edition of Split’s favorite festival, Festival Mediteranskog Filma Split (Mediterranean Film Festival), set to begin on June 17, will open the gates of the iconic Bačvice Open Air Cinema on June 17, for a ten-day period celebrating the achievements of the national cinematographies of Mediterranean countries.
The festival will open with the Croatian premier of the award-winning Turkish production When I’m Done Dying (Bir Nefes Daha), featuring a tense and dynamic action paired with a strong rap soundtrack. The festival will also have a European premier of the tense thriller Do Not Hesitate, just days after its Tribeca premier.
One of the films to keep your eye out on are Night of the Kings (Le nuit des rois), a prison-set fantasty drama, and the Maltese production Luzzu, which earned its leading actor Jesmark Scicluna the World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award in Acting at the Sundance Film Festival.
The two French productions Little Mommy (Petite maman) and The World After Us (Le monde apres nois) come straight from this years competition program of Berlinale, with the Palestinian 200 Meters which has won over the hearts of the audience at this years Venice Festival.
The Portuguese drama Submission (Submissao), which has won the best screenplay award at Tallin and the heart-wrenching Turkish production Brother’s Keeper (Okul Tirasi) are this year’s potential crowd favorites. The ten-day festival close on Saturday, June 26, with the Croatian premier of Bulgarian humoresque drama Fear (Strah).
Apart from the features, the festival will again feature the competitive program “Ješke” for the Croatian-produced shorts that will be played before the films from the main category.
International shorts will be screened at a separate location from the main program, at the plateau in front of Dom mladih (Ulica slobode 28, Split). The 16 film selection will be shown from Monday June 21, to Thursday June 24.
Due to the Coronavirus protocol in action, the main venue of the festival will be capped at 300 persons, so it is advisable to purchase your tickets ahead of time. The tickets will be made available for purchase starting from June 10 both online at the official website of the festival and offline at the ticket booth at Bačvice Open Air Cinema entrance that will be operating during the duration of the festival from 19:30 to 22:00 hours.
